New 2016 Acura RDX

2016 Acura RDX Overview

New/Notable:
  • Compact luxury crossover seats up to five passengers
  • Refreshed for 2016 with slight styling updates
  • Lots of new available safety technology, including adaptive cruise control
For 2016, the Acura RDX compact luxury crossover gets a refresh which adds some tweaks to the styling inside and out, but most importantly a raft of newly available safety technologies.

The most prominent addition to the exterior styling is the switch to the jewel-eye LED headlight design that’s making its way across the Acura lineup. Instead of a traditional setup, the headlight cluster houses five individual LED elements arranged in a line, giving the RDX and a unique visual signature especially at night. There are also new wheel designs all around, updated front/rear fascias, and a new grille.

Under the hood, there is one engine option. It’s the same displacement as last year’s 3.5-liter V-6, but adds cylinder deactivation technology for better fuel economy and power is bumped up slightly to 279-hp and 252 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive come standard, with all-wheel drive optional. Fuel economy is estimated at 20/29 mpg city/highway for FWD models, while AWD models come in slightly behind that at 19/28 mpg.

Inside, the RDX gets an updated interior design for models with navigation, moving a new interface that puts two screens in the center console so the map and directions can be displayed on the upper screen, while the lower screen can be used to change the audio system, climate settings, or enter new destinations. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, HomeLink remote, satellite radio, powered and heated front seats, leather upholstery, and push button start.

The 2016 RDX also adds new safety features, including changes to the body structure that are designed to help the RDX stand up to crashes better. There is also new technology, including AcuraWatch which is part of the Advance Package, and offers forward collision warnings with collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and lane departure warnings. Standard safety features include a rearview camera, six sirbags, antilock brakes, and electronic stability control.
